Meet Author Barry Lee Thompson

Barry Lee Thompson, member of our group Elwood Writers, guest interviews about his newly released book, Broken Rules and Other Stories, on the website ‘In Their Own Write’.

There, Barry discusses his writing process. For him there is no such thing as writer’s block. If he gets stuck, he works on something different,, dipping in and out of other stories.

‘I don’t sit down for lengthy periods in front of a page, but dip in and out through the day. Writing is a series of problems. I walk a lot, and think a lot, and sit and daydream, and ideas and solutions arrive in those moments.’

He addresses other topics pertinent to writers, but today let’s look at what we might do if we get stuck in our writing. Dabble with another piece, for instance, or try something new or go for a walk as Barry does. Let the process filter, he suggests, until the solution arrives. Because it will come, and other pieces of writing will get ‘fixed’ or improved along the way.

Thanks Barry, for this advice It’s very encouraging.
